24-7 Prayer exists to reconcile the world to God in Jesus Christ. We are changing the world by mobilising the Church in prayer, mission and justice.

Wales

Wales has been a birth place for countless prayer movements and of some significant moves of God (such as the Welsh Revival, 1904-1905). Over and over again, women and men, young people and children have responded to the call to pray – to “pray as if it all depends on God, and live as if it all depends on them”.

Since 24-7 Prayer began in England in 1999, prayer rooms have popped up in a variety of different places all around Wales – in churches and Cathedrals, in office buildings and empty shops, in Universities and in schools too. These 24-7 Prayer rooms have drawn people of different denominations and different generations together, often for the first time. In many places, the prayer has spilled out ‘onto the streets’ in acts of kindness and care for the poor and the broken, and in the launching of new projects. This is prayer, mission and justice, the triple heartbeat of 24-7 Prayer.

In November 2010, 30-40 leaders met in Newport, South Wales, for 24-7’s first Network Day in Wales. These friends listened to each other’s stories, stories from prayer rooms and movements around Wales, and they worshipped, prayed and listened to God together.

As they reflected together, someone felt that God was saying that a new generation was rising from the ‘ashes’ of what had been before and since ‘burnt out’. And then 24-7’s Lindy Morgan re-told the story of Abraham gathering sticks to fuel a fire, and said that she felt the coming younger generation would “carry a fire and inspire prayer across the nation, through hours and hours of continuous prayer”. As the day unfolded, many people described pictures and offered what they felt God was saying… it was an exciting day!

The priorities for 24-7 Prayer in Wales at this time are:

  • to continue to be a blessing to the body of Christ in Wales by encouraging prayer, mission and justice, and 24-7 Prayer rooms in towns and cities (of which there are 114), and in rural villages and hamlets (of which there are *many* more!)
  • to encourage Christians in Wales to join together and fill 2011 with prayer, and to welcome Christians from *outside* of Wales to join in praying *for* Wales during 2011 as well. Individuals, small groups and whole churches can book slots (or whole weeks/seasons) during 2011 on the Pray Wales 2011 web-page
  • to establish a 24-7 Prayer team in Wales who can develop longer-term vision, strategy, partnerships, network and budget.

Currently, the team includes;

Lindy Morgan networks amongst churches and organisations around Wales, encouraging them in prayer, mission and pursuing justice. She is a fire-starter, and has been serving 24-7 Prayer in Wales for many years.

Sammi Bryan volunteers alongside Lindy, helping to support and fuel 24-7 Prayer rooms around Wales, and in her home town of Newport. She is also a youth worker and a solicitor’s receptionist.

So… please join with us, wherever and however you can. Get in touch – either with questions, or suggestions, or offers of help, words of encouragement – we’d love to hear from you and about you. And if you’re in Wales, please get in touch, register your 24-7 Prayer rooms as part of the Pray Wales 2011 year, and on 24-7’s International website and we’ll be in touch to offer any help/support you need.
