Prayer Spaces in Schools – Ireland

Tash from 24-7 Ireland just posted this story on the 24-7 Prayer Ireland Site. They recently had a prayer space in Bandon Grammar School. One 5th year student  writes this report:

“I love West Cork and being apart of what God’s doing here. In the past 18 months we have seen God work afresh in our lives.

There is such a hunger and desire for more of God amongst so many young leaders. All this has been rooted in prayer not only by the youth but also within the Christian Community in Bandon.

On the 7-15th of December we opened a prayer room to our school. Our purpose for this prayer room was to show God’s love to all students. There was a reassurance in our hearts and a confidence that God was in control. Based in an old shower room, God had his hand on our school and blessed the lives of many. The Theme was ‘Why Jesus?’ and there was 6 station all focused on different creative ways in praying to God.

We are still blown away to see how God’s working in our school, there was an acceptance by staff and students. A silence of shock and amazement filled the room as people entered. The prayer room was on the mouths of most students, telling their Friends to come and see for themselves.  ‘What a powerful and gracious God we have’. Opportunities were created for people to know God in their lives. By the end of the week and two days 12 students accepted the Lord into their lives.
I can often loose sight on how Big God is, but I have learned a lot from the prayer room and how God can transform my school.

‘Then we Your people, will thank You forever and ever, praising Your greatness from generation to generation’ Psalm 79 v 13.”

These kind of prayer spaces are popping up in schools all over the place. Over the next few weeks, we know of people hosting prayer spaces in Romford and Gloucester and Leeds and Guildford and Colchester and Stanford and Upminster and Cheddar and… I’m sure there are some I’ve forgotten? Something exciting is happening in schools all over the UK.

And these prayer spaces are very simple. They are hospitable and inclusive, inspiring and provocative, creative and even educational… at least, that’s what the teachers and education professionals keep telling us. In fact, 24-7′s schools team are working hard at the moment, developing some additional resources which will connect the prayer space in with many of the OFSTED guidelines and Key Stage curriculum goals.

We’re also beginning to re-work our initial resource pack, which has already gone out to more than 100 youth and schools workers, teachers and church leaders around the UK (plus a few beyond our shores) – many of whom have either hosted prayer spaces in schools, or are planning to do so.

If you’re interested in finding out more, or you want to receive one of the existing resource packs, please contact us here
