“Throughout the week the church was set up to welcome in those who desired to seek God,” writes Aileen Fleming. “Those who visited us over the week – approx 200 men, women and children – came from both a church background and a non-church background. Some signed up in advance but others just got wind of what was happening and turned up to experience the presence of God.
One non-churched lady told us that she had the dilemma of choosing whether to go to the Bingo that night or come and spend an hour in the Lord’s presence. She informed her friends of her choice to go to the church and despite their mocking she was incredibly blessed by her visit to the prayer rooms.
The most common statement made by those who attended over the week was to comment on the amazing atmosphere at the event which we know could only be attributed to the tangible presence of God. Many who came were reluctant to leave once their hour was up!
The impact on relationships between and within churches has been incredible. Even during the planning stages we sensed such a unity. Each church sent a representative to the planning meetings. They brought their own creativity and passion to the event and together created an environment that ushered in the presence of the Lord throughout the week.
Four zones were created within the prayer rooms and each church representative took ownership for one of the zones. The zones were as follows:
• Praying for ourselves and our personal walk with God
• Praying for our community
• Praying for our nation
• The Meditation Room
Over the course of the week, individuals from every church in the district visited the Prayer Rooms and all left their denominational tags at the door as they came to seek God together. There was such a warmth towards one another and a passion to seek God and for Him to heal their land.
The request from many was, “Can we do this again?”
