Prayer Room: Acton, London

“We had a fantastic week of prayer,” writes Ruth from Acton in West London. “We were praying in our newly purchased building that we haven’t officially moved into yet. There is a huge building project to happen before we move in so people were painting on the actual walls! It is right on the High Street of our town and it was fabulous to look out of the window in the early hours and pray over our community. We had plenty of heaters to keep us warm, as there was no central heating!! We had a main small prayer room and a larger ‘overflow’ room for if people wanted to pray when a slot was booked and that person wanted the smaller room alone.

Notable answers to prayers include… The twelve-year-old nephew of one family, fell about 5 metres from a balcony onto his head.  Despite the initial fears he is now fully recovered. The newborn baby of another family was thought to have an infection but hospitals tests all came back negative. One lady was prayed for, because Doctors could not get any heartbeat from the 8-week-old foetus she was carrying.  It all looked extremely bleak but we have now heard that all is well! Others testified to depression lifting; the presence of God weighing on them; the joy of prayer and to hearing His voice. One lady was struggling to enjoy her work situation and feeling “taken advantage of” to her surprise she was offered a 25% pay rise! Prayer was offered up for new accommodation for a man known to us who had remarked that he wanted to live closer to Acton. He has been found somewhere nearer. Other answers include the provision of work; new Christian friends, new creative opportunities at work and much more.

We were thrilled to have so many people coming to pray. We all felt that we became closer as a church as we came and went. We had lots of kid’s slots including drumming prayers, dancing prayers and art prayers. So many people felt an hour wasn’t long enough and signed up for more. Many people unleashed their creative side and painted and drew on the walls as they prayed. Some guys would come in the evening and they’d start painting/praying and still be there the following morning having prayed all night. The presence of God was beautiful… a couple of people just burst into tears as they walked in.

Many people have expressed the idea that they want a permanent prayer room in the new building and we certainly would love to make 24/7 an annual thing. Every prayer room is unique – and we loved ours.”
