If you were at the Big Church Day Out this weekend, you probably heard Pete Greig interview Carla Harding about our exciting plans for 2012. We’re teaming up with Alpha UK and many others to call for a non-stop year of prayer, mission and justice… and we’re calling it ‘Kingdom Come UK, 2012’ (KC:UK2012).
This is just an early warning. Over the coming weeks you’ll see lots of changes on this website and on Alpha UK’s prayer webpages, articles and video interviews, new resources to help us pray for the world, plans for how we think it’s going to work, etc… but this is where it all begins, with a simple idea to change the nations.
From 1st January 2012 until 31st December 2012, we’re going to pray in the UK like we’ve never prayed before. Building on recent, unprecedented years of non-stop prayer in Scotland (‘The Big If…’) and in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland (‘What If…’), we’re going to pray together… hundreds, probably thousands, of prayer rooms of every denomination, in schools, colleges and universities all over the UK, praying for days, weekends, whole weeks or more. Prayer that spills out into mission and justice. Can you imagine it?
We’re working with our Alpha UK friends to get things organised, to figure out how we can best resource and equip thousands of groups and churches to pray like never before – Alpha UK are calling on their 7000+ ‘Alpha churches’ to participate, for example, and we know that many other denominations, organisations and networks are keen to join in. And that’s why we, at 24-7 prayer UK, are re-aligning everything that we do to pray, and to live, this one prayer during 2012…
“Let your Kingdom come, Father. Let your will be done, here, as it is in Heaven…”
In the year when the world will come to the UK for the Olympic Games, we believe that God wants the Church to ‘rediscover God’s compassion for the world’, and to ‘receive again God’s call to go into all the world’. It’s about extending the welcome of God to the world as they come to the UK, as well as to the world who are already in our streets and communities – God, give us compassion and help us to reach out with love and hospitality. And it’s about mission and justice, going into all the world – God, give us courage to go with the Gospel, wherever you lead us.
Stay tuned for more news as it comes… Kingdom Come UK, 2012. We’d love you, your friends, your churches to join in with us.
