“A student in Aberystwyth Uni shared with me an email she’d received. It was Pete Greig’s ‘VISION’. This blew my mind because so much of it was my very heart beat for the nation of Wales.”
This month sees the first Wales Update email being sent to 300 subscribers, telling of what God is doing through prayer, mission and justice across Wales. Lindy Morgan tells of what has happened so far and how you can connect:
God showed me a might army of young people who He was going to raise up to take the nation of Wales back for Him. They would be made up of those who had been broken and cast aside by all areas of society and especially the church. They would be on fire with a passion for Jesus that would conquer and transform their generation, marching across the nation in arrow formation breaking through whatever obstacles were put in the way. It was the autumn of 2001. He’d brought to life in my spirit something that didn’t seem at all radical to me at the time because I was completely aware of that which He’d been stirring in me for the previous couple of years. AND He was asking me to prophecy over the dry bones and breathe His breath over them – set them alight and raise them up!
I worked as a youth pastor for my church, St Michael’s, Aberystwyth, and spent myself in encouraging the youth to take hold of all that Christ had died to give them – life in all of its fullness expressed through a precious oneness with the lover of their souls. Some responded but I knew that this wasn’t it. There was so much more!
Then a student in Aberystwyth Uni shared with me an email she’d received. It was Pete Greig’s ‘VISION’. This blew my mind because so much of it was my very heart beat for the nation of Wales.
It was the hook that got me involved with 24-7 Prayer! I started setting up prayer rooms in my church and immediately found that people were encountering the person of Jesus and the power of Holy Spirit in a way that was transforming lives like I’d dreamt of but hadn’t seen much of in the natural.
One youth came into the prayer room and was immediately wacked by Holy Spirit, spending two whole hours on the floor ‘that lasted only five minutes’. As a consequence of his encounter with God there was an impact on the family that led to His mother later giving her life to Jesus, being healed of crippling arthritis and his dad being set alight and now heading up Alpha in our church.
That was just the start. The church leadership were happy for a prayer room to function once a year and so every year we had this wonder-filled space for people to come and have their lives changed. It was a bit like the pool at Bethesda that was being stirred for a week once a year and those who wanted to were able to touch Jesus and be touched deeply by Him. The way that many people had been praying was changing – across the ages – becoming more freely expressive of the prayers that Father was impressing on them. But Christ came to give us a continual oneness with Him. My heart was crying out for a permanent space…it still is!
Then the UK Tour came to town. With it we launched a prayer room that ran for six weeks. A total of twelve churches from across the town had some representation in the room during those 1008 hours. It was awesome to hear some of the stories. One young lady found forgiveness in her heart for someone who had badly wounded her as she painted bold bands of colour across a piece of paper. So released was she that the next day she was able to ask for their friendship to be reconciled. Also during that time a couple of guys came in with their guitars and played their prayers for three hours without stopping in the small hours of the night. They were amazed as God gave an interpretation of what they were playing as their prayers were sung out in accompaniment to the music by someone else who was in the room.
Then I was called onto the UK Team to represent Wales for 24-7 Prayer and now do so full time as a volunteer supported by others who have a desire to see Wales ablaze with prayer that summons in revival. In this role I travel the length and breadth of Wales encouraging those who are praying and promoting 24-7 Prayer. I’m available to speak to groups and churches at the cost of a tank full of petrol (or more if people feel so prompted!) and have a burning desire to set alight any who long to discover and respond to Father’s heart as they seek His face. Prayer rooms are happening here in Wales and I’m encouraging those who have started well to begin breathing more regularly . . . we die if we don’t exhale!! Then breathe in and develop a rhythm of breathing prayer that’s in tune with Father’s heart.
There’s evidence that prayer is overflowing and spilling out.
There’s a 24-7 Prayer community slowly growing in Aberystwyth. Most of whom are involved with getting out on the streets on a Saturday night in the same way as ‘Street Pastors’ do. It’s called ‘NightLight’ and is a work that is prayer outworked into the community. Also we’re mostly involved with a feeding the homeless thing that happens every Sunday, that you can read about in the 1st Wales Update newsletter – follow this link and subscribe. We also go out and just pray for people on the streets – it’s scary/exciting and so rewarding. One lad came up to me when I was out with NightLight recently and was trying to think where he remembered me from. His mates remembered me from their time in school where I’d go and spend time every week but it wasn’t from that. Then he remembered that it was from praying on the streets in broad daylight. Just another nudge for him that will I’m sure bring him into the arms of Jesus.
I know that these initiatives are in answer to prayers prayed over the years – people are responding joyfully and willingly to Father’s heart of justice and mercy.
That original vision I’ve not let go of and in recent days it has been burning again in me to find the precious stones that have remained in hiding until the appointed time.
