“During Holy Week, the Guildford Boiler Room Community held a 24-7 Prayer week, remembering the first coming of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost. In the centre of the prayer room was a huge golden bowl – not a real one, but a representation of the one described in Revelation 5 – “they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints”. Each day the bowl became a little fuller as people wrote their prayers and put them into the bowl – an act of faith that their prayers were being presented to and heard by God.
We also continued our community’s rhythm of prayer into a corporate activity – every day we held Morning Prayers from 7am, Lunchtime Prayers from 12pm and Evening Prayers from 7pm, using and being inspired by the Celtic Daily Prayer Offices. Many said how impacted they were by these times of meditation and reflection, whilst sitting amongst the artwork and scrawled writings of the prayer room.
We were so encouraged by the amount of churches in Guildford that were represented by those coming into the prayer room. And there were many stories of people being impacted my the presence of the Holy Spirit, as well as real encounters with God’s love.”
