“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being” (Revelation 4:11)
People who are passionate about prayer have been building 24-7 Prayer
rooms for 10 years now. We let the wildness of the movement encourage the creativity of prayer rooms into all sorts of ideas. For example, anarchic punks in Germany decided to build a white prayer room with a single chair in a room & ruled that no-one take anything in or out except for their Bible. For some this would seem like a very relaxing experience, but for the Punks this was the hardest thing they could think of doing. They wanted so desperately to push themselves to engage with God, they didn’t want to default to what was easy for them: drawing, painting & poetry! There have also been been people in South Africa who used a tree as a prayer space because they didn’t have a room to base the prayer room in, and in Canada a group hired a van in order to create a ‘prayer room on wheels’, which went round to different local churches encouraging them in new and creative ways of praying.
24-7 Prayer loves the fresh ideas that people have of communicating Jesus and the Gospel in new and interactive ways, making prayer rooms into places that both strangers to the Gospel and long term Christians can engage with the Holy Sprit and God’s word.
We want to continue to encourage such creativity in prayer rooms, and recognise that many people have been building prayer rooms regularly over many years. That’s why we thought it would be great to have a place to share these ideas and for others to be inspired by them, in our aim of communicating the Gospel of Jesus & engaging people in prayer.
We have put this Creative prayer bank together from ideas that have worked well in prayer rooms around the world. The bank is broken down into four parts each creative idea has an age limit next to them AA for Any Age & AO for adult only:
Click on the pictures below to take you to the related prayer room ideas…
Journeys – are whole prayer rooms. You are able to print the document out and it will have everything you need to make a room into a prayer room. It has many sections that can that link together within the room to create a sense of worship. It also contains lists of the materials needed for each section.

Themes – are ideas to help communicate a subject, like fruits & gifts of the spirit, remembering to pray, thank you for the cross, shredding sins etc. This section has all the Creative prayer bank ideas in it. These ideas provide helpful areas to have in a prayer room. (Of course you can use your own as well!) In these sections you can scan though the themes and pick areas that you feel your church or community would really benefit from. You can piece together the prayer room of your dreams!

Bible verses – these are ideas to help open up the bible in a prayer room, particularly if you are encouraging younger Christians to read the word of God, and includes ways to use visual representations of a Bible verse.
Age limits – most of the creative prayer bank ideas can be used for any age and this is represented by (AA) in the file name. Some of the creative prayer ideas may be unsafe for children younger then 12 (for example they can involve candles or sharp objects) and these are represented by (AO) for adult only. If you want to put one of the (AO) ideas in your prayer room it may be a good idea to ask an adult to supervise when children are using the prayer room. 24-7 Prayer loves involving children in prayer rooms so do please think about how young people can engage with your space
If you have examples or ideas of things you have done to inspire people in your prayer room, we’d love to hear from you! Get in contact with us so we can add it to the Creative Bank for others to use.
